Gilberto Fernandes

It was a great honour to meet the President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, the Mayor of Toronto Olivia Chow, and the many other dignitaries who visited my Movimento Perpétuo exhibition. It was a memorable day. One of the most delightful outcomes was to be able to bring together, in the same room, some of the people that shared their artifacts, records, reflections, and memories with me; my public history students who helped me put it all together; and old friends and new acquaintances, springing me onto new projects. A special treat was spending time with Mayor Chow talking about Portugal and Kensington Market, reviewing each other’s speeches, and chatting with the guests. She was generous, warm, funny, and very eager to shamelessly promote my book, of her own volition, which I appreciate.
